I learned lots of embroidery techniques in the City & Guilds stitched textile courses, but I’ve now gravitated to the things I like best. I love appliqué work and traditional kantha stitching and there are examples of both types of work here.

A big interest for me is in dyeing fabrics and threads, especially the use of natural dyes. I use a lot of madder, cochineal (reds and pinks) and logwood (purple through to grey and black). I’ve also had good results with onion skins, rhubarb leaf and weld.

I use all kinds of fabrics in my work and typically an appliqué piece will contain bits of silk, linen, cotton and wool. And lots and lots of stitching.

Influences include the work of Judith Martin (Canada), Jude Hill (USA) and Matthew Harris (UK).
